Choosing a TV you can use for your PlayStation or Xbox can be tricky. You would have to decide which features matter most to you. For example, you really won’t care much for the sound quality of the speaker system because as a gamer, you are likely going to use a headset with a a microphone so you can communicate with all your teammates. You may not even care a whole lot about the wideness of the viewing angle. Gaming is by and large a solitary experience, so you just plop yourself in front of the TV and could care less about the other people in the room. If you’re a gamer, the Samsung JS9000 has all the features you do care about.
Features and Specs
With the JS9000, the sound quality is mediocre as expected. This curved TV is rather new to the scene, and it comes with the latest Ultra HD 4K features you’ll want so that the images look great and stunning. Getting to Game mode may not have been as easy as it should be, but it’s not really all that troublesome. And besides, you’ll get the fruits of your labor soon enough.
For gamers, the input latency is a prime factor to consider, and here the Samsung engineers really showcased their talents. Input latency (or input lag) is the time difference between a source generating an image and that image being displayed on screen. It’s not the same as response time, which refers to how quickly a pixel shifts from one color to another.
With a lag of more than 125 ms, a fast-paced game is unacceptable. A 100 ms lag is something that everyone will notice, and for regular gamers a 75 ms lag will still be bothersome. Competitive gamers will not even accept a lag of more than 50 ms. But with the game mode in the JS9000, gamers won’t have to worry about such things. Its input lag is excellent at 23.6 ms.
The other main strength of the JS9000 is that it really handles fast movement very well. The images are crisp despite the frenetic action on the screen, and there’s not much blur at all. That’s due to the response time, which is a quick 11.1 ms.
While the viewing angle isn’t great and the picture quality isn’t as good when you view it at an angle, when you’re directly in front of the screen (as you ought to be when you’re playing) the view is excellent. The glossy finish of the TV reduces the ambient reflections quite well.
Pros and Cons
The JS9000 is great for gaming, there’s no doubt about that. In fact, it’s also great for watching fast-paced movies and sports games as well. The action on screen remains sharp. The color is good right out of the box, and it has 3D and motion smoothing features too. Perhaps the only drawback for the JS9000 is that the picture quality won’t be as good for those who are not sitted at the center.
If you’re a gamer, or you just love the action on screen, the JS9000 is the TV to pick. The images look great, and the input lag is almost non-existent.
