The LG G4 Dares to be Different

LG was once a market leader in the cellphone industry, but it came rather late to the smartphone party and has been unable to retain its frontrunner status. It has tried to catch up in the past, but their G3 didn’t really help matters. Now there’s the G4, and it seems that LG has actually made an effort to bring smartphone features that people really want. It did so by offering a different package than your usual metal and glass design.

Specs

This Android 5.1 smartphone comes with a 5.5-inch screen and a 2560 by 1440 resolution. Memory is 3 GB, and storage is 32 GB. There’s an 8MP camera in front and a 16MP camera at the rear. The 3000mAh battery is also removable so you can carry a spare.

It’s a bit large in size, but it’s manageable enough because of its curves. And to make it different from all the other metal smartphones out there, you can choose from a plastic polycarbonate version which has a diamond effect, or the premium leather in black or brown for its back housing.

Pros and Cons

The number of LG fans is increasing by the day, and the G4 has a lot to do with the brand’s renaissance. Its design is actually quite appealing, and because it’s different-looking than most smartphones, it does have a special appeal.

Then we come to the superb display, and here it matches the Galaxy S6 in quality. What that means is that aside from the S6, nothing matches the quality of the G4 display. It’s insanely good, and it shows everything in stunning clarity and detail. LG has tried to inject cinematic quality to its screen, and it has succeeded with the G4.

The camera is also terrific. You’ll get excellent pictures every time. Even at low light, it is capable of giving you sharp and clear photos that may make you think you’re now a pro photographer.

The ergonomic aspects are also nice. The leather option is better than the plastic, by the way, but not all people will be fans. But at least it’s different and gives you another option. Also, the curves and the placement of the rear button feel especially comfy.

Unfortunately, it does have that one weakness that many of the better smartphones have: poor battery life. It’s unlikely that you’re going to get a day when you won’t need to recharge your phone.  Also, some users feel that even though its price is lower than the iPhone 6 and the Samsung S6, it is still way over-priced for what it offers.

Verdict

The LG G4 is for those who want something different. The quality of the display and the camera surely makes it different AND better. But not everyone will say that of the leather or plastic at the back. Plus the off-putting battery life and price may make you hesitate to buy it too.

But if you do decide to get it, you’re getting one of the best smartphones out there. This G4 is for you—that is, if you dare to be different.
