If you live an active lifestyle, you often have to choose between having a fragile smart phone with a full range of features or a durable smartphone that is seriously lacking in features. But this is no longer the case today because now you can get the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active.
Features of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is a true full-featured smartphone with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB for memory storage. It measures 5.72 by 2.89 by 0.35 inches, which makes it just a bit bigger than the regular Galaxy S5.
It comes with the typical Galaxy S5 OS, apps, and features. That means you get the Android 4.4 KitKat and the much talked about TouchWiz interface. The 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor is fast enough for gaming, and the battery can last up to 15 hours of video.
It also comes with the 16-megapixel camera module at the back and the 2-megapixel camera in front. The video recorder can shoot UHD videos with up to 2160p resolution. The front-facing camera is excellent for selfies, and it applies special airbrushing by default.
But then it also comes with a heart rate monitor and physical navigation buttons. You also have the convenience key with the flashlight, compass, and camera.
On phone calls, the volume is loud even at just the medium-high level. There’s not much background noise to bother you, and the voices are natural sounding and warm without any sort of muffled effect. Clarity is definitely not a problem, and this goes for the speakerphone as well.
Pros and Cons
So what sets the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active apart from the regular S5 and other smartphones with similar features? That’s easy: this one’s a lot tougher. It does well against dusty environments, shocks, and a short dip underwater. The plastic corners are reinforced, so that it’s more resistant to scuffing. The edges are grooved for a better grip, and the back is flat.
It does seem that the reinforced corners do their job, and the convenience key is quit useful.
But despite all these design improvements, it’s quite telling that Samsung itself doesn’t make any grandiose claims as to its improved durability. It looks tough, but there’s no guarantee. It also doesn’t help that the slippery backing makes the grip less effective.
In any case, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active offers a lot of great and convenient features for any one with an active lifestyle. And it even offers a truly superb gaming experience as well.Ddespite the lack of a guarantee, it does seem quite tough that you don’t need to buy an extra case for protection. It has all the protection it needs.
