If money is not a problem, the options available for home entertainment are endless. You can even spring for the Naim Audio Mu-so without feeling the least bit guilty. It’s quite expensive with a retail price of $1,500 but there are some pretty good reasons for that price tag.
Features of the Naim Audio Mu-so
The Naim Audio Mu-so is massive at 28.7 pounds measuring 4.8 by 24.7 by 10.1 inches. The grill covers two 5 by 2.5 inch drivers, two 2-inch mid-range drivers, and two 0.75-inch tweeters. With 6 digital amplifiers, the drivers can consume 450 watts in all.
You have lots of wired and wireless connection options with this system, and that means the Naim Audio Mu-so can perform lots of different functions. You can use it for network play as an AirPlay speaker or as a Spotify Connect Speaker. Five presets are available for Internet radio stations, and you can tune in to any of those directly on the speaker or on the remote without needing a mobile device for streaming.
With the remote, you can adjust the volume, change the inputs, or shift through different Internet radio stations. And of course, you should also use it for your HDTV instead of relying on its built-in speakers.
Pros and Cons
The sound quality is immaculate, for lack of a better word. Even though it doesn’t have a separate subwoofer and it doesn’t even offer an equalizer function, the sound is quite strong and the low-end range comes across clear and solid. It can handle most bass-heavy tracks, and even at high volumes the thumping bass comes across without any sort of distortion.
More melodic sounds are presented very well, and it can balance synth and acoustic instruments nicely. Piano sounds are sharp and clear too. Perhaps the only note that makes it less than perfect is its inability to match a system that has a dedicated subwoofer, when it comes to delving deep into the sub-bass range.
So all in all, you can use this sound system for just about everything. Movies will sound infinitely better than what you’ll get from its built-in speakers or you can use your mobile device to pipe in some music. It even has its own remote, which isn’t typical for wireless audio systems.
Then again, the price tag can be a bit galling. If it’s just great sound you want, there are alternatives that offer the same audio quality for less than half the price.
So is it worth $1,500? For most people, the simple answer is no. It doesn’t really make much sense to pay so much when you can get something similar for a lot less.
But if you have money to spare then why not. The Bluetooth and AirPlay support are great, you can finally try out Internet radio, and the remote controller is a convenient touch.
