For some people interested in taking photos and videos, the equipment’s ability to zoom in is crucial. Now some cameras offer 18x zoom and others even reach 30x zoom. But for true super-zoom features, you may want a look at the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS. This is the digicam you need to make sure you never miss a shot.
Specs and Features
The Canon PowerShot SX60 HS measures 3.6 inches high, 4.5 inches wide, and 5 inches deep and weighs 1.4 pounds. But of course, the real feature you want to hear about is the zoom. Brace yourself: the f/3.4-6.5 zoom is the equivalent of 21-1,365mm. That means you can get a 65x zoom ratio.
That can make it a bit hard for you to keep track of a moving subject, but Canon has anticipated this so they also offer a Framing Assist Seek and Lock set of features. These features make tracking and framing far away subjects much easier compared to using other cameras.
Other features include an integrated EVF, a rather sharp vari-angle LCD, and 6.3 fps continuous shooting. It offers raw shooting support and with it you can also record 1080p videos with 60 fps. There’s a mic input, and Wi-Fi is also integrated.
For videos, it offers accurate colors and excellent detail, and the internal mic can pick up any nearby audio clearly. With the mic input, you can use an eternal mic. It also comes with a hot shoe for mounting the mic.
Pros and Cons
Just about every other digital cam that offers more than 50x zoom has one major flaw. It may have a sluggish focus speed when zoomed in, despite offering super image quality. Another may offer a quick focus, but may come with purple fringing. Others may cut back on various features altogether just to offer a 50x zoom.
But the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS is the exception to this rule. The display offers a sharp image, the EVF is quite good, the focus speed is good enough even at maximum zoom, and Wi-Fi is already integrated.
Of course, you have to pay for all these benefits, and that’s the downside here. In fact, if you don’t really need the 65x zoom you can find digital cameras with the same impressive features but at a lower price point. You may even get one with an EVF eye sensor that can switch the view automatically between screen and viewfinder.
The PowerShot SX60 HS has everything you need in a digital camera and it has ridiculously powerful zoom features. If you have to take pictures and videos from very far away, then the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS is what you need by your side. This is for parents of performers, budding paparazzi, and nature lovers. But if you don’t need the 65x zoom, there are better options out there for a lower price.
